Whenever I want to hold myself accountable to something, I set a date or a deadline and attach something to it that will be difficult to change without either letting someone else down or risk looking or feeling like I have failed. This has always worked well for me. I strongly believe that things take as long as the time you have given them to. Remember when you were in college or high school and you were given six weeks for an assignment? If you were like most, how long did that assignment take you? Six weeks. On the button. OR that same assignment was left sitting until you had 24 hours left… how long did that assignment take you then? You got it… 24 hours.

This same law rang true for our renovation journey. As much as we would have preferred to have had the job done within a month, the law took over. Soon into the work I set a date for the Grand Opening. I chose it because it was far enough in the distance so that we could be completely sure everything would done and perfect. It surely was… however we took every last minute of our time. Every single one. So much so that one the day of the grand opening we were still completing work. It was the time crunch of all time crunches. Stress to the max.

At one point throughout the journey I had even wanted to give up. I wanted to cancel the party and just come in a like a lamb. However, after all we had done we just couldn’t do that. Use the time we had… and miraculously it all got done!

The day of the grand opening had come and we had accomplished most of what we set out to do. When I say most, I only mean there are a few things left to be tended to such as an entry sign that we wanted to decide on once we were in the space, and a few other odds and ends.

The whole process was fun in hindsight, however planning the party was our favourite. Nothing too grand, just an open house ( mind the pun) with all of our friends, family, clients, and neighbours. Sharing a toast and celebrating our new beginning.

As the first snow fall began to blow in London,Ontario that evening we weren’t even worried. Our new home was warm and welcoming and even if it was just us there, it was complete.

Folks did however brave the weather to take the tour and share a toast. Tomorrow would bring our first full day of business in our new downtown London location.
