Focal points for homes usually tend to be kitchens and livings spaces. Therefore these are the rooms where most builders tend to focus their energy and creative power. Over time they begin to take on a certain style that makes it very easy to determine what builder it is just by entering the room.
This is also the case for Millstone Homes of London. Only with these homes you will find it easy to determine who has crafted the home before even getting very deep inside.
Starting with the staircase. Typically in or near the very front entrance of every home, the staircase is a necessary feature for all. Necessary does not have to equal boring. Millstone Homes of London takes stair case design to new heights. Bringing modern, intricate detail and designing no two alike.
Glass and metal mixed with wood and open space can accurately describe quite a few of them. As can contemporary lines and modern inspiration.
Floating staircases are common in Millstone Homes recently. Originally they could be found in mid-century homes although at that time the main component of these staircases was metal and some what ornate design. Millstone takes clean lines and soft material from the 21st century while elegantly bringing to life an old sought after style. The desire for this type of staircase comes from it’s ability to allow light to flow freely through the stairs and maximize sight lines to make a space appear larger.
Dramatic ceilings in all of Millstone Homes allow for further creativity when designing the modern stair case. Straight up and down is somewhat of a thing of the past. Turned corners and glass walls have replaced tradition allowing the staircase to be an art form rather then simple necessity or functionality.
Mainly wood finish. With soft rounded edges. You will rarely, if ever find carpeting or runners on the staircase of a Millstone Home. Unless however it leads to a basement or has been spcifically requested by someone building their home. The reason for this is carpet can be bulky and when designing a modern space flat, clean and smooth are the words to live by. Carpet doesn’t always allow any of these things to flow.
When considering a signature piece of a home or the signature design of a home builder a stair case isn’t often what people would choose or point out. The stair case is also not the only distinguishing feature of a Millstone Home. We will feature more in future blog posts.
Have you had the priviledge of visiting a Millstone Home? If so, what would you consider a distinguishing feature?
We look forward to hearing from you.
